Curriculum 0786
This program prepares students for music-related careers and graduate studies. The required curriculum includes theoretical and historical music studies and applied performance courses. It is structured to allow students to take electives in music and non-music courses, and many students tailor their education to their particular interests by double majoring with another major on campus. Major Departmental Requirements 40-44 Credits
Music History: (6 cr.)
Select two courses from the following: Music Technology: (3 cr.)
Select one course from the following: Applied and Ensembles: (8 cr.)
- Applied Instrumental or Vocal Instruction (4 cr. over 4 semesters, must take at least 1 cr. as upper division 300/400)
- Performing Ensembles (4 cr. must be upper division)
Music majors are required to enroll in one of the following ensembles concurrent with their applied lessons: Concert Choir, Mambo Combo, Symphonic Band, Gospel Choir, Guitar Ensemble or Jazz Ensemble. Additional Degree Requirements
- All students enrolled in private instrumental or vocal instruction are required to:
- participate in a performing ensemble;
- present a solo performance each semester;
- attend five musical performances presented or sponsored by the Music Department each semester.
- Students must pass an audition on their principal instrument or voice type.
- Completion of all Undergraduate Degree Requirements , including General Education: The Cardinal Core Curriculum , elective courses if applicable, and a total of 120 credits minimum.
- A minimum GPA of 2.0 in Major Departmental Requirements.
